American Idol Season 22 aired the first night of Hollywood Week on Sunday, March 31 st. The show first traveled to the judges’ home town for auditions. Lionel Richie hails from Tuskegee, Alabama. Luke Byran hails from Leesburg, Georgia and Kat Perry is from Santa Barbara, California.
After the auditions, 143 contestants arrived in Los Angeles for a chance to advance to the live shows. They were called to the stage one by one to perform. Only 57 contestants remained at the end of the show.
Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Byran return for their seventh season on the panel. Ryan Seacrest also returns to the show as the host for the past 22 seasons.
