“Whiplash” will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a release to theaters for the Sony Pictures Classics movie. The film returns to theaters September 20 and Sony issued a new trailer.
“Whiplash,” written and directed by Damien Chazelle, follows an ambitious music student and aspiring jazz drummer (Miles Teller), who is pushed to his limit by his abusive instructor (J.K. Simmons) at the fictional Shaffer Conservatory in New York City. Also starring Paul Reiser, and Melissa Benoist.
The movie won three Oscars, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama for Simmons, Outstanding Editing and Outstanding Sound Mixing.
Chazelle, who also wrote and directed the Oscar-winning “La La Land,” based the script off of his real-life experiences as a member of his high school’s jazz band.
