“The Golden Bachelor” will return for another season on ABC and Hulu. The show also announced the next Golden Bachelor. Mel Owens, a 66-year-old former NFL veteran-turned-lawyer, will take on the sometimes-dramatic and difficult task of finding his love in front of Bachelor Nation.

Born and raised in a close-knit Midwestern family in Detroit, Owens’ athleticism shone through from an early age. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he was selected as the ninth overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft by the LA Rams. Following his retirement from football, Owens transitioned into a career in law and moved to Orange County, California.

The first season of “The Golden Bachelor” added to the popularity of Bachelor Nation with viewers. The show averaged 10.4 million viewers after the first 35 days across platforms, making it the strongest average for any season of an ABC unscripted series since “The Bachelor” during the 2019-2020 season (P2+, MP35). It also hit a 2.88 rating among P18-49, the highest-rated ABC unscripted series since “The Bachelorette” in fall 2020.

After more than 20 years of fostering young love on “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise,” “The Golden Bachelor” showcases a whole new kind of love story – one for the golden years. On this all-new unscripted series, one hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life. The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?

A premiere date for Season 2 of “The Golden Bachelor” has not been announced but has in the past aired in the fall.
