One of the most talked about love triangles in pop culture history is heating up. In Archie Comics No. 600, Archie Andrews, the comic book hero from Riverdale will propose to Veronica and not to the girl who would seem like his obvious choice, Betty.
“There are a huge number of Betty fans that are very upset that Archie chose Veronica over her,” Michael Uslan, who wrote the six-issue story line told The New York Daily News.
“But look at our day and age: This scenario has already happened in real life. Brad Pitt picked Angelina [Jolie] over Jennifer [Aniston].”
The wedding announcement has upset many of the comic books long time die hard fans. One fan was so upset upon hearing the news, that he reportedly sold his rare first issue of Archie in protest.
To celebrate the sale of the issue and the engagement, some stores are offering customers slices of wedding cake.
The news of the engagement hit earlier this summer, the Archie Comics series has garnered attention again. Fans are grabbing their old copies from their attics and have taken to re-reading the story.
Archie Comics have been around sine 1941 and has touched a great number of fans throughout it’s 68 year existence.
Will the wedding actually happen? That seems to be the question on everyone’s mind. Not likely if this engagement increases comic book sales. The 600th issue of Archie hits newsstands today.
