One of the night’s strongest performances was from Keyla Richardson who had judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and guest judge Jennifer Hudson on their feet. Richardson got a standing ovation for her rendition of “Circle of Life” from “The Lion King.” Hudson, who sang the same song during her time on Idol, threw a shoe on stage – signaling an outstanding performance.

Speaking with a group of reporters after the live show, Hudson said she was overcome with emotion by the “full circle” feeling.

“When I came in to work with the finalists as soon as I saw the ‘American Idol’ sign,  it took me back right into that moment,” Hudson said. “Before I even auditioned for ‘American Idol,’ I worked on a Disney cruise and I sang that song. I even sang it [on the show] with Elton John.”

For Luke Bryan, he was a little surprised by Knydal’s elimination. The native had struggled with health problems with a sore throat during Rock & Roll week.

“I had some surprises,” Bryan said.  “I can’t answer why Kyndal’s still not in here. I think historically America and a lot of voters at home will give leniency when one is sick. For some reason that’s the route they took. She’s extremely talented. A beautiful songwriter, a beautiful singer…she’s got her own little artistic lane. I was surprised by that definitely.”

Carrie Underwood was surprised by Knydal going home as well, say she wasn’t on her radar to leave. She cites that every season comes with a surprise but notes that leaving now is not the end of one’s career.

“American Idol” is an incredible platform…it’s an incredible way to get yourself exposure to the world. What ever happens, this is a jumping off point. I won it and I’m dong this now and Jennifer didn’t win it and she’s doing this now. Your destiny is your destiny.”

For Lionel Richie, the constants made the performances on Disney night, “Church.”

“These kids brought some sausage to the table, some barbeque sauce it what I should say.” On Keyla’s performance, he agreed with Hudson’s comments on the “Circle of Life” performance.

“I think Jennifer said it best. To be out on stage, you’re overwhelmed by the fact that you’re there; number two, you’re having crisis in your family. I remember walking out on stage and my father just died. I walk out on stage and my mother just died…thought out life you’re going to carry an emotion on stage and Jennifer said it correctly. You have to figure out how to keep that emotion close to you, but at the same time deliver the song. That little crack in your voice, that’s what they really want to hear but don’t lose the performance.”
