Nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced and as no surprise many of the actors, actresses and films that have been on film critics Top Ten list were nominated, including first-timer, directors Kathryn Bigleow (The Hurt Locker), Lee Daniels (Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire), and Jason Reitman (Up In The Air) and actresses Monique (Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (Crazy Heart).
No stranger to the prestigious awards nominations is Meryl Streep, arguably the best actress of her generation. The two-time Oscar winner landed her 16th nomination for her role as Julia Child in “Julie & Julia.” Streep had become the most nominated actor in Academy Award history.
This year marks the Academy’s return to 10 Best Picture Nominees rather than the usual 5, the first time 64 years.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin and will be broadcast Sunday, March 7 on ABC.
