Comic-Con 2011: William Shatner announces 'The Captains' with Avery Brooks and Scott Bakula

Star Trek legends and “captains,” William Shatner, Avery Brooks and Scott Bakula got together at Comic-Con to announce that it will preview its original EPIX Picture, “The Captains,” at this year’s 4 Day Event. Shatner will talk about the original documentary he produced and directed, an in depth look at the actors who have played Star Trek Captains in the films and television shows. Avery Brooks, who played Captain Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Scott Bakula, who played Captain Jonathan Archer in Star Trek: Enterprise, will join Shatner on a panel at Comic-Con moderated by Kevin Smith Friday, July 22, which will include exclusive clips and an audience Q&A.

When asked what makes the series so special and relevant today, even warranting a major motion picture reboot a few years ago with Chris Pine, Shatner says, ” This [Star Trek] franchise is na adventure, something we all have in common.” Bakula adds, “The franchise isn’t going anywhere anytime soon…there’s a passion and a pureness to the franchise that came reinvented so it’s still timeless. There’s a lot of space out there to be explored.”

“It’s been 44 years and counting,” adds Avery. “Its often duplucated but not ever the same. It’s not going anywhere in that sense.”

“The Captains” will make its world premiere July 22 at 8:00 pm EDT on EPIX and EpixHD.com as the centerpiece of SHATNERPALOOZA, a celebration of William Shatner’s film and television work running on the EPIX linear channel, EPIX SVOD service and EpixHD.com from July 21 through July 30.
