'All My Children': creator Agnes Nixon to end the iconic soap with a cliffhanger

Agnes Nixon and the cast and crew of “All My Children,” wrapped network television production for the show after 42 years on ABC.

Fans of the Emmy winning series have been eager to know how it comes to an end for their favorite characters or not since the show is not ending entirely. Viewers have been wondering how the show will end on Friday, September 23rd. Questions are also rising about whether or not ABC’sdeal with Prospect Park to produce the show online will effect the story in any way.

Agnes addressed the questions in an interview with Steve Johnson of The Chicago Tribune. She confirms that she will have creative input with the show.

“…I’ll be the creative consultant,” she shares. “Sometimes there are writers who don’t want my help, but for the most part I have the big ideas. We’re going to have a hiatus, you know, for three months. And the head of Prospect Park (the production company taking over the shows) said, “We’ve got to have a big cliffhanger for that three months.” And so I came up with one which I can’t tell you. But they loved it.”

In addition to helping with the ending of the show, the writer will also appear as a patient at Pine Valley Hospital this week. Her character will help several Pine Valley residents in a big way.

“I don’t know why they put me in. Just to be nice, I guess,” she says of her acting return. She orginated the role of Agnes for the show’s 35th anniversary episode.

Agnes appears on “All My Children” on Wednesday, August 31. The final episode on ABC will air on Friday, September 23rd. The show is expected to return with all new episodes via the internet in January, 2012.
