TCM Classic Film Festival to screen 'The Pawnbroker' for film's 50th anniversary

The2014 TCM Classic Film Festival is heading back to Hollywood from Thursday, April 10th to Sunday, April 13, 2014.

Set around the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, this year’s festival will host such films as “Gone with the Wind” and will feature  tributes to many Hollywood legends, including Quincy Jones, composer of many films. “The Pawnbroker,” one of the films Jones composed, will also be shown to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Paramount Pictures release.

Directed by Sidney Lumet, the 1964 film marked the first major American film ever to depict the Holocaust from the perspective of a survivor. Rod Steiger stars as a Harlem pawnshop owner who has closed himself from the world emotionally as the result of losing his family during the Holocaust. Geraldine Fitzgerald co-stars as a sympathetic social worker, with Brock Peters as a pimp using the pawnshop as a front and Jaime Sánchez as a shop assistant. “The Pawnbroker” was composer Quincy Jones’ first outing as a film composer.

For the fifth consecutive year, thousands of movie lovers from around the globe will descend upon Hollywood for the TCM Classic Film Festival. The 2014 festival is set to take place Thursday, April 10 – Sunday, April 13, coinciding with TCM’s 20th anniversary as a leading authority in classic film. Over four packed days and nights packed, attendees will be treated to an extensive lineup of great movies, appearances by legendary stars and filmmakers, fascinating presentations and panel discussions, special events and more.

The theme for the 2014 TCM Classic Film Festival will be Family in the Movies: The Ties that Bind. Throughout the four-day lineup, the festival will showcase on-screen clans of all types – big and small, happy and imperfect, musical and dramatic. In addition, the festival will spotlight the first families of Hollywood and the filmmaking dynasties that have entertained generations.
