TCM 20th anniversarys bring old Hollywood to young audiences with Movie Locations Tour

TCM celebrated their 20th anniversary ahead of their annual TCM Classic Film Festival with a free tour through Hollywood. Called the “Movie Location” Tour, the free tour by Starline Tours in association with TCM, travels through Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, Echo Park and Silverlake for a look at Hollywood through the movies that helped make the city known around the world.

TCM host Ben Mankiewicz hosts the tour on DVD as he mentions all of spots where Hollywwod legends walked, worked and played.

The enclosed bus held about 45-50 people, its windows opened and the top was mostly glass providing a real 360 view of the city.

Tours continue through April 14th. No seat is guaranteed so if you are able to reserve a seat come early. It’s worth  the wait.

Red Studios Studios Hollywood began its Hollywood life as Metro Pictures Back Lot #3 in 1915. Metro sent a troupe of filmmakers to Hollywood to establish a West Coast studio.  In the 50s, it would be home to Desilu, the studio built by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez for “I Love Lucy.” Movies and TV shows shot there: 1950 – Cyrano de Bergerac, 1952 – High Noon, 1953 – Lucy Show, 1953 – Downbeat starring Frank Sinatra,1955 – I love Lucy, 1955 – The Dick Van Dyke Show, 1955 – Make Room for Daddy, 1955 – The Real McCoys, 1957 – The Luci-Desi Comedy Hour

 Out side of Paramount Studios on Melrose in Hollywood. It was the setting for one of the most famous scenes in movie history. Below is a clip from “Sunset Blvd.” In the movie, has been movie star Norma Desmond returns to Paramount Studios after her forced retirement and if almost turned away from the gate. “Without me there would be no Paramount Pictures,” she says.
