Chance the Rapper wins Best New Artist at the 2017 Grammy Awards

Chance the Rapper won the Best New Artist Award at the 2017 Grammys.

Chance was nominated against Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Anderson .Paak, and The Chainsmokers.

In his acceptance speech Chance said “Glory by to God,” “I claim this victory in the name of the Lord. I want to thank God for my mother and my father who have supported me since I was young, for Kirsten, for Kensil, for all of Chicago. And I want to thank God for putting amazing people in my life Pete and Pat (who were on stage with him) who have carried me since 2012. I know a lot of times when I talk about independent that people think independent means you do it by yourself. Independence means freedom, and I do it with these people right here”.

Chance’s Coloring Book LP became the first streaming-only release to ever hit the Billboard 200 and  to score a Grammy nomination.

Chance ended the night with a total of three Grammy Awards.
