On tonight’s episode of “Star,” entitled “Mama’s Boy, ” Hunter surprises Star during a neighborhood block party fundraiser by inviting superstar recording artist/producer Pumpkin (Missy Elliott) to the event.

Alex re-evaluates her dreams of stardom when her mother, Rose Spencer (Naomi Campbell), shows up with an irresistible proposal.

Meanwhile, Jahil explores a new opportunity and Cotton (Amiyah Scott) agrees to meet with Pastor Harris (Tyrese Gibson), hoping to mend her relationship with her mother.

Queen Latifah, who plays Carlotta, the woman in the middle of her daughter, Cotton, and her man, Pastor Bobby, is happy that the topic is being shown the way that it is and warns that it goes deep. Bobby is struggling with the fact that Cotton is transgender. Carlotta and Bobby love each other but there are issues that might get in the way of that love.

“What’s interesting about Carlotta and Pastor Bobby is they are both very flawed people who had a very checkered past and found Jesus and found some peace and growth and forgiveness in Jesus by following Jesus,” said Queen Latifah on a recent press call. “Their lives are still what their lives are, and they come with the baggage they come with and their experiences, so I think what you’re going to see is—and, they also greatly care for each other. They’re in love, so Pastor Bobby is one of the few sweet spots in Carlotta’s life.”

One of the issues that Carlota and Bobby have is trust. Bobby is also dealing with the fact that Carlotta kept this important part of her life from him.

“She still loves him,” Queen Latifah continued. “There’s a lot of love there, but the fact that she kept secrets from him is probably what hurts him most, and the concern about how he’ll react to the whole truth of her is what may concern her most, so we’re going to see that explored, and it’s going to take—there’s going to be some powerful television coming up. Like something you’ve never seen on TV in the next couple episodes. So, I think definitely tune into that. It’s something I’ve never seen and I’ve never done. Knowing Tyrese and Amiyah in real life and them knowing me, it was one for the hardest things we’ve had to play this whole season because we have such love and care for each other.”

“Star” airs Wednesdays on at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
