Justin Hurwitz wins the Oscar for Best Original Score for La La Land

The 89th Oscars was held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and was televised live on the ABC Television Network . The Oscars were televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

The nominations for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original score) incuded:

  • “Jackie” Mica Levi
  • “La La Land” Justin Hurwitz
  • “Lion” Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka
  • “Moonlight” Nicholas Britell
  • “Passengers” Thomas Newman

The winner of the award was  Juatin Hurwitz for La La Land.

 

 

Hurtwitz was present at the event.  He said “Thank you so much to the Academy. Thank you to my very, very good friend, Damien… Thank you to everybody at Lionsgate. Thank you to all the L.A. musicians who played on this score. I just put notes on the page, and they’re the ones who made it beautiful and sound the way it does. ….. So thank you to everybody who worked on this movie. Thank you.”

La La Land took home a total of 6 awards.
