African American Music Appreciation Month: A look at Lalah Hathaway

June is African American Music Appreciation Month. My pick for today is Lalah Hathaway. I love her music. Her voice is stunning with an amazing vocal range. This clip of her singing her dad song is so amazing. You can hear so much of her dad Donny in her. The ending just gives me chills. Hathway is the daughter of the late great Donny Hathaway. She has been on the music seen since the 80s and has won five Grammy awards. Hathaway even recorded her seventh album:”Lalah Hathaway LIVE”. The live intimate concert event took place at the legendary Troubadour in West Hollywood, California.

Hosting the recording at the venue was special for Hathaway because it is where her father recorded half of his classic 1972 album “LIVE”.

Hathaway is on tour this summer with Mary J. Blige.
