In Memory of Glen Campbell: Video interview for The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards

Glen Campbell passed away on Tuesday, August 8 in Nashville, TN. He was 81. Campbell had Alzheimer disease. He went on one last tour in 2011- 2012 to say goodbye to his fans and his career.

Campbell also stared in the 2014 documentary, “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me” now streaming on Netflix and recorded an album of his favorite songs called “Adios.”The album was released this summer.

Campbell won five Grammy Awards and sold more than 45 million records. He also had 12 gold albums and 75 hit records. He is best known for his No. 1 songs with “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Southern Nights.”

He also received two Academy Award nominations. First for the title song from the 1969 film “True Grit,” in which he also stared in alongside John Wayne. He was nominated again in 2015 for “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” a song from the documentary “Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me.”

Campbell’s musical career dates back for decades. He toured with the Champs of “Tequila” fame. He was part of the house band for the ABC TV show “Shindig!” and a member of Phil Spector’s “Wrecking Crew” studio band that played on hits by several artists. Campbell also played guitar on songs by Frank Sinatra, The Monkees and Elvis Presley. He also had success on TV. He had a weekly audience of some 50 million people for the “Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” on CBS.

Campbell is survived by his wife Kim, eight children and ten grandchildren.

Campbell received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Recording Academy on February 7, 2012. I spoke with Campbell on the carpet at the event as the LA Music Examiner for Examiner.Com.
