‘The Goldbergs’ pay homage to ‘The Karate Kid’

“Wax on, Wax Off,” says Sensei! Adam learns karate on an upcoming episode of  “The Goldbergs.” The episode entitled, “The Kara-te Kid” was inspired by the “Karate Kid” films and features Adam and the other Adam Goldberg face off in a karate match to settle once and for all a long-running feud.

Also in the episode, Barry and Adam go to Uncle Marvin for training, but the only thing they learn is how to clean an apartment. Meanwhile, when Erica and Geoff’s relationship becomes public, they realize that they aren’t the good guys, on “The Goldbergs,” airing Wednesday, August 30 on ABC.

“The Goldbergs” stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, as Beverly Goldberg, Patton Oswalt as adult Adam Goldberg, Sean Giambrone as Adam Goldberg, Troy Gentile as Barry Goldberg, Hayley Orrantia as Erica Goldberg, AJ Michalka as Lainey Lewis, with George Segal as Pops Solomon and Jeff Garlin as Murray Goldberg.

The episode stars Dan Fogler as Marvin Goldberg, Bryan Callen as Coach Mellor, Sam Lerner as Geoff Schwartz, Noah Munck as Naked Rob, Matt Bush as Andy Cogan, Allie Grant as Evy Silver, Sean Marquette as Johnny Atkins, Alex Jennings as Carla, Quincy Fouse as Taz Money, Oliver Cooper as Other Adam and Martin Kove as Master John. Fans of the original “Karate Kid” movie will remember Kove played a similar role to what he plays in this episode.

“The Kara-te Kid” was written by Adam F. Goldberg and directed by Anton Cropper.
