CBS’ new magazine “60 Minutes,” enters its 50th season with a major coup – Oprah Winfrey joins the team of journalists on the show. Winfrey will debut September 24, with her first story, reporting on America’s political divide.
“It’s a testament to the power of the Sunday-night newsmagazine that it seeks to absorb one of television’s biggest stars into its fabric instead of the other way around. One of the medium’s best-known celebrity interviewers will do some, but will largely work against type in reporting stories,” said Jeff Fager, the show’s executive producer.
“She wants to do stories with impact. She’s driven by that and so are we. That’s part of why this is such a good fit for her.”
Oprah Winfrey has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world. For 25 years, Winfrey was host of her award-winning talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which was the highest-rated television program of its kind in history. Her accomplishments as a global media leader and philanthropist have established her as one of the most respected and admired public figures today.
The “60 Minutes” team includes Anderson Cooper, Lesley Stahl, Steve Kroft, Scott Pelley, Bill Whitaker, Laura Logan, Norah O’Donnell and Charlie Rose.
