Interview: ‘The Mayor’s’ Yvette Nicole Brown previews new ABC series

In ABC’s “The Mayor,” young rapper Courtney Rose (Brandon Micheal Hall) needs his big break. For years he’s toiled away in a small inner-city apartment, making music in his junk-filled bedroom closet. Tired of waiting for opportunity to knock, Courtney cooks up the publicity stunt of the century – running for mayor of his California hometown, Fort Grey, to generate buzz for his music career. But his master plan goes wildly awry, ending in the most terrifying of outcomes: an election victory.

The cast attend the PaleyFest Fall Previews, Screening, Panel and Q&A of their show last month at Paley Center For Media.

TVMusic Network was on on hand and talked to the cast including actress Yvette Nicole Brown. The actress has been a familiar face on television screens for years having been in many project, including “Community,” “The Odd Couple,” and BET’s “The New Edition Story” to name a few.

Check out the interview below where the actress talks about her thoughts on the show. We also put her to the test, asking if she were the Mayor of her hometown, what would she do in the role.

“The Mayor” premieres Tuesday, October 3 at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
