TCM Classic Film Festival 2018 to screen 1937’s classic ‘A Star is Born’
When the 2018 TCM Classic Film Festivalcomes to Hollywood tis month, one of the most anticiapated films shown will be the original 1937 classic film, “A Star is Born.” The film stars Fredric March as faded star Norman Maine and Janet Gaynor as the young, hopeful Esther Blodgett/Vicki Lester. William A. Wellman directs the film that is a littl under 2 hours in length.
“A Star Is Born” has been in the news a lot lately as a new version of the movie starring Lady Gaga
and Bradley Cooper, who directs the film will be released later this year. There was also the famous 1976 version with Barbra Steisand, who has recent gave postive reviews of scenes shot while she visitied the set of the upcoming Gaga version. Judy Garland did a version of the film as well in 1957.
“A Star Is Born” tells the story of a young female star who rises to the top as her true love, an established star, falls from favor. Steisand’s version and the Gaga version changed the professions to rock stars. The TCM Classic Film Festival runs April 26 through 29 in Hollywood.
