Interview: Oscar Nominee Glenn Close on Her Role in ‘The Wife’

Sony Pictures

Actress Glenn Close gives one of her finest performances in “The Wife.” The role won Close her 5th Oscar nomination and many as saying now is the time for her to take home the statue next Sunday when the 91st Academy Awards are announced.

In “The Wife,” Joan (Close) and Joe (Jonathan Pryce) remain complement after nearly 40 years of marriage. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. Where Joe is vain, Joan is self-effacing. And where Joe enjoys his very public role as the great American novelist, Joan pours her considerable intellect, grace, charm and diplomacy into the private role of a great man’s wife. As Joe is about to be awarded the Nobel Prize for his acclaimed and prolific body of work, Joan starts to think about the shared compromises, secrets and betrayals.

TVMusic Network has the opportunity to chat with Close at the 2019 Movies For Grownups Awards where she received one of many Best Actress Awards for the role.

Check out the interview below where Close talks about the nomination and awards season.

“The Wife” is in theaters. The 2019 Academy Awards air Sunday, February 24 on ABC.
