Happy Birthday, Batman! On March 30, 1939 (May 1919 cover), Detective Comics Issue 27 first introduced comic book readers to “The Bat-Man” who remains one of the most beloved comic book characters and Super Heroes to this day.

Batman was celebrated during Wonder Con with Batman’s 80th Anniversary and Happy Birthday Batman panels over the three-day convention in Anaheim.

During the Batman’s 80th Anniversary panel, comic book writers and artists shared their past Batman works, announced any upcoming Batman projects that are currently in production, and revealed their thoughts and what they believe is the legacy of Batman. “Timeless Champion of Injustice” seemed to be the common thread expressed by the panelists Pete Tomasi, Becky Cloonan, Greg Capullo, Joelle Jones, Scott Snyder, and Tom King.

Moderator/Publicist Gary Miereanu introduced an impressive line of talent at the Happy Birthday Batman panel that included writer Grace Randolph, DC Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee, actor David Mazouz (Gotham), Lee Meriwether (Batman ’66), Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond), Diedrich Bader (Batman: The Brave and The Bold), and Roger Craig Smith (Batman Arkham Origins). The panelists shared stories of their first encounters/experiences with the Batman Universe, which included Lee Meriwether’s touching memory of her mother reading Batman comic books to her and her brother when they were young children. An impressive custom Batman cake was rolled out as the panelists and all in attendance sang “Happy Birthday” to “The Caped Crusader” and attendees were gifted with individual Dark Knight cupcakes and flashlights that project the Bat Signal when turned on.

Batman will be the first inductee to the Character Hall of Fame at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego, California on July 17th this Summer.

The Super Hero will be honored on Batman Day as the iconic Bat Signal will be projected in the night sky in major cities all over the world on September 21st this year.

Fans are encouraged to post their own Batman celebrations and activities throughout the year by using the hashtags #LongLiveTheBat and #Batman80 on their social media.
