Smokey Robinson to be honored at The Golden Heart Awards by The Midnight Mission

The Midnight Mission’s 19th Annual Golden Heart Awards Gala will be on Friday, October 4, 2019, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. This year’s Gala will be an evening of fun, friends and philanthropy. The Golden Heart Awards Gala jointly honors The Midnight’s longstanding legacy to Southern California’s neediest individuals and families, as well as those people whose contributions embrace the organization’s transformative spirit of giving. As Southern California’s premier social service provider, The Midnight has never missed a day of service since 1914.

This year two people will be honored. honorees two champions in our community. The Golden Heart Award will be given to Singer-Songwriter and Record Producer William “Smokey” Robinson, Jr. and Outstanding Volunteer Susie Siverts. This year’s honorees are being recognized for their significant contributions to understanding and responding to the human tragedy of homelessness, and each embodies The Midnight’s enduring commitment to helping those who are less fortunate.

The Gala will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction. The awards dinner following will recognize the exemplary service of individuals with The Midnight’s highest distinction, The Golden Heart Award. Attendees can look forward to a moving program with testimonies from alumni from The Midnight Mission programs and honorees. There will also be a special musical performance by TMM Alumnus Toby Metz and a musical tribute to Smokey Robinson by former lead singer of The Temptations Louis Price.

Special guests for the evening include entertainer and former Golden Heart recipients Dick Van Dyke and his wife Arlene, former Golden Heart recipient and actor/comedian Tim Allen, record executive/producer/songwriter, film/television producer and founder of Motown Records Berry Gordy, musicians Jason Federici and Jason Heath of Jason Heath & The Greedy Souls, former Golden Heart recipient and musician Jason Sinay, television personality, print journalist, author and former Golden Heart recipient Mary Murphy and many more.

The Golden Heart Award is presented annually to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment and compassion for those in our community who are less fortunate. The Golden Heart Awards Gala is our most high-profile event and a fantastic opportunity for sponsors to build a public partnership with The Midnight Mission. The Gala is attended by business, entertainment, and community leaders from throughout our region.

Past honorees include Carrie Fisher, Tim Allen, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Chuck Lorre, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Sinay, Tom Petty, Richie Sambora, Dick and Arlene Van Dyke, Staples Center Foundation, Annenberg Foundation, Nestlé USA, Inc., Bank of America and others.

Proceeds from the event support The Midnight Mission’s program services, which include food and safe shelter, crisis and bridge housing, comprehensive addiction recovery, an education center, job training and access to physical and mental health services for homeless individuals and families in Southern California.
