Legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart has passed away at the age of 67 on January, 7 after battling brain cancer. Peart was born on September 12, 1952 in Ontario, Canada.
The band official twitter and Facebook confirmed the news.
Peart joined the Canadian progressive rock trio in 1974 following the release of the band’s self-titled debut album. In addition to joining Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson and becoming their drummer, he was also the main lyricist of the band. He joined Rush at the age of 22, making his debut with the band on their 1975 album Fly By Night. He played on 18 of Rush’s 19 studio albums, the last being Clockwork Angels, which was released in 2012.
Following Rush’s “R40” tour celebrating the band’s 40th anniversary, Peart announced his retirement
from the band in 2015. Lifeson announced Rush’s dissolution three years later.
Neil Peart’s influence on modern drumming in all aspects of heavy music and his style varies in many genres. If you ask any rock drummer who their musical influences are, his name will be mentioned as a drum legend.
