American Idol announces Top 12 contestants

American Idol‘s show on Monday night was a homecoming of sorts when original Idol judge Paula Abdul returned to the judges chairs temporarily replacing Luke Bryan who has been stricken with COVID-19 and unable to appear on the show which announced the Top Twelve contestants.

Paula joined Lionel Richie and Katy Perry at the judge’s desk as “American Idol” gets closer to crowning a new winner. Paula was also reunited with host Ryan Seacrest and original judge Randy Jackson facetimed them during a part of the show.

Following America’s overnight vote, 10 contestants were revealed from the top 16, leaving five contestants to perform for a chance at one of two spots picked by the judges, rounding out the top 12. Contestant Wyatt Pike dropped out of the competition due to personal reasons leaving 15 contestants left from the original Top 16.
