‘Joan Baez I Am a Noise’: Documentary Shares Personal Noise

Joan Baez

Folk singer Joan Baez’s documentary, “Joan Baez I Am a Noise,” is a look at the singer’s most intimate moments as she looks back on her life while she embarks on her final tour. The movie is a raw and intimate portrait of the legendary folk singer and activist that shifts back and forth through time as it follows Joan on her final tour and delves into her extraordinary archive, including newly discovered home movies, diaries, artwork, therapy tapes, and audio recordings. Baez is remarkably revealing about her life on and off stage – from her lifelong emotional struggles to her civil rights work with Martin Luther King, Jr. and a heartbreaking romance with a young Bob Dylan. A searingly honest look at a living legend, this film is a compelling and deeply personal exploration of an iconic artist who has never told the full truth of her life, as she experienced it, until now.

Baez’s most intimate moments are shown, often making us feel like we are intruding in places we shouldn’t. As we look through her self-portraits, poems, songs, personal journals, and career archives, we feel the peace the folk legend now feels. Baez’s legacy includes forty albums, an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a Kennedy Center Honor, an unforgettable Woodstock performance and a Grammy Lifetime Achy Lifetime Achievement Award.
