‘General Hospital’ Celebrates 62nd Anniversary with Special Episode on ABC

General Hospital” celebrated 62 years on the air and has become a daytime television staple on ABC. With over 15,600 episodes to date on April 1, 2025, the show kicked off a special episode that dedicated a new wing in honor of beloved character Dr. Monica Quartermaine (played by the late Leslie Charleston who passed away earlier this year). In the episode, long time Port Charles characters got together as Mayor Collins (Genie Francis) revealed the plaque for the Dr. Monica Quartermaine Cardiac Care Center.

Ned (Wally Kurth) and Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) took a moment to reflect on their family members who were a big part of the hospital by visiting the Memorial Wall dedicated hospital staff that are no longer with us, including Dr. Steve Hardy (John Beradino) who was with the show from the beginning, Nurse Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman), and Nurse Epiphany Johnson (Sonya Eddy).

The episode also announced the return of the Nurses Ball beginning May 20 with host Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) recruiting Port Charles’s newest resident, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), to fund the event. The fictional charity event, which usually includes a red-carpet fashion show and musical performances, is dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness.

General Hospital” was created by husband-and-wife soap writers, Frank and Doris Hursley. Frank Valentini is the executive producer and showrunner. Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte are co-head writers. The series is produced by ABC.

General Hospital” airs weekdays on ABC and after 5 p.m. same day on Hulu.
