The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards were held in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27 at the Peacock Theater where the night belonged to Madonna. The music icon, who performed at the first ever Video Music Awards in 1984, took home a total of seven Moon Men trophies, including wins for Artist of the Year. Madonna also won Best Dance (her Confessions II short film) and Best Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter for their duet “Bring Your Love.”

Nirvana (Video Vanguard Award) and Taylor Swift (Artist Directors Award) both received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Swift also took home Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia.”
The show also took a moment to honor Dolly Parton as Kacey Musgraves performed “I Will Always Love You” as a duet with the country music superstar with died last month.
