Watch: Ledisi Celebrate Black Women With ‘BLK WMN’ Video BY Tyler Perry
Check out the video of Ledisi’s song BLK WMN. With visuals by Tyler Perry, the video is a feature a tribute to Black women. The Grammy-winning singer shared how the now viral video came to life on March 17 of The Sherri Shephard Show.
“This song was just supposed to be on the album, nothing big, but I wanted Tyler to hear it,” Ledisi told Sherri. “Tyler Perry is a good friend of mine, the singer told Sherri. I sent it to him to listen to it. I told him I just need visuals with it if you’re free because it had to be cinematic. He heard it and immediately said ‘I have everything. I know what I want to put together for it. What do you need.”
The result of Ledisi telling Perry that she wanted just visuals of Black women to celebrate Black women. The video features a compilation of photos of Black women throughout history, including Harriet Tubman, Coretta Scott King and Maya Angelou, to modern icons such as Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris, Janet Jackson, and Beyoncé, among many others.
“The song came out of tears,” she said of writing the song. “Just loving the work that we do as people. And I woke up at 4 in the morning and felt like writing the song – BLK WMN came.” Her new album “The Crown” comes out on April 25.
